Mikis Theodorakis Theatre

The cultural summer Mikis Theodorakis theatre was inaugurated in September 2005 within the Kastromina estate. The opening ceremony took place in the presence of Mikis Theodorakis where the entry name was revealed and introduced the beginning of events, shows, performances and concerts in the facility. The outdoor theater has a capacity of 1500 to 1800 people.
Mikis Theodorakis, of Cretan descent, was born on July 29th in 1925 in the island of Chios. He is one of the most famous personalities of arts and of the greatest composers. He has composed all kinds of music from opera to folk. He has served as a politician, minister, member of the Greek parliament and activist. He received the Lenin Peace Prize in 1983 and composed the sirtaki dance known as "Zorba's Dance" in 1964 which is the most widespread Greek rhythm in the world.
