Apolihnon castle

The Apolichnon Castle, built by Nikolao Ioustiniani in 1440AD, is located next to the settlement of Armolia on a hill at an altitude of 220 metres. It is only accessible through ascending a path surrounded by typical vegetation of this part of the island. The castle has visual contact with the Vigles of the area. In the past, it was framed by double walls and had 62 rooms, water tanks, a central tower and other smaller ones as well as a church. The only possible way to enter the imposing castle was by using ladders. Nowadays, what is left is the ruins of the rooms and the remains of the towers. Only the south wall of the castle is preserved and illuminated at night.
